Senior's Car Crashes Into Church Leaving It 'Unsafe': Toms River PD (Photo)

Going to church took on a whole new meaning in Toms River.

An 86-year-old motorist crashed her car into a church building leaving it unsafe, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 10:25 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18 on Fischer Boulevard,, Toms River police said.

Police and EMS units were dispatched to St. Justin’s Roman Catholic Church for a reported vehicle into the building. 

Frances Baranowski, of Brick, told police that she was attempting to pull out of her parking spot when her foot became stuck on the gas pedal and behind the brake pedal, causing her vehicle to accelerate forward, hit the curb, and become airborne before colliding with the building. The vehicle sustained moderate damage to its front end as a result of the crash.

Baranowski refused medical treatment at the scene. 

The building sustained considerable damage to the structure as a result of the crash and was deemed unsafe by the Toms River Township Building Department. 

The accident is being investigated by Officer Will Resetar.
